Peter Simon's career has been a journey of strategic adjustments. He started as a firefighter, inspired by his uncle and a childhood fascination, and then became an EMT. Balancing firefighting and construction work, he funded his education and earned a bachelor’s degree. Realizing the physical demands of his jobs, he planned for the future by enrolling in law school to understand corporate structures.
After earning his J.D., Peter moved to Manhattan, drawn to its vibrant construction scene. He began his risk management career by responding to a New York Times ad, quickly gaining safety certifications such as OSHA 500 and CSP. He later earned a Master’s in Public Health, focusing on environmental and occupational science.
Peter transitioned from fieldwork to risk management and planning, assessing potential financial and insurance-related risks both internally and externally. He holds ARM and CRIS credentials and helped establish the Risk Management, Plans & Logistics department at Total Safety. His definition of the components of any comprehensive site safety plan—development, implementation, monitoring, and enforcement—has become a model for the industry.
Peter is also a member of the Safety Executives of New York (SENY) and is responsible for spearheading industry presentations on local and national regulations. Peter’s diverse background has enabled him to readily bridge the gap between legal and technical aspects.
